Shaping Your Supervision

Information Session with Prof. Dr Jutta Stahl
20 May 2026, 8.30–approx. 9.30 am (online)

A PhD is a balancing act: the aim is academic independence; at the same time, guidance, feedback and support from supervisors are essential.
The needs of doctoral candidates and the expectations of supervisors can vary greatly depending on the specific doctoral project and the specific course of the doctoral studies.

Nevertheless, there are general rules and tips on how you, as a doctoral candidate, can also work towards a successful supervisory relationship and which services offered by the Faculty of Humanities (HF) and the University you can (additionally) make use of for this purpose.

Jutta Stahl will outline key aspects of the supervisory relationship – such as those that may arise during regular supervision meetings – as well as other services offered by the HF and the UzK that doctoral candidates can utilise to complement the support provided by their supervisory team (approx. 30 mins).
She will then answer questions from participants (approx. 30 mins).

The event will be held in German; English subtitles will be available via Zoom.
Questions from participants in English are very welcome, and English-language slides will be made available afterwards.
