Workshop “Scientific Integrity: Introduction and Orientation for Doctoral Candidates”
Dr. Ira Maschmann
Three dates for 2026
Good scientific practice and scientific integrity are essential foundations for the quality of scientific research and teaching and an unconditional commitment for all those working in science.
Researchers in the early stages of their scientific careers therefore have a full responsibility to uphold good scientific practice and integrity, and have the right to work under conditions of good scientific practice and integrity.
At the same time, the scientific landscape is diverse and differentiated, and applying good scientific practice to specific fields of activity is correspondingly complex.
Not least because of this complexity, doctoral students do not necessarily have sufficient experience and knowledge of the various facets of the topic that they may encounter in their future work as researchers, teachers, and learners.
The workshop is therefore aimed at doctoral students at the beginning of their doctoral studies and offers an introductory overview of the essential basics of good scientific practice and scientific integrity.
This overview serves as a stimulus to reflect on the generally binding principles and guidelines for good scientific work with regard to your respective projects, to deepen your knowledge independently, and thus to concretely define your own role as a scientist in this context.
Another goal of the workshop is to position your role in such a way that you can adopt an assertive attitude in potential conflict situations, including interpersonal ones.
Following the blended learning principle, the workshop is accompanied by a short online quiz on selected questions of good scientific practice and scientific integrity, with which we would like to draw your attention to selected aspects of the topic in the sense of providing more in-depth information.
All participants can complete the quiz at home.
You will receive a certificate of participation upon completion.
Proof of sufficient knowledge of the principles of good scientific practice and scientific integrity in the first year of doctoral studies is mandatory according to § 7 (3) of the doctoral regulations dated September 10, 2024.
Doctoral candidates under the doctoral regulations of September 10, 2024, therefore have priority when registering.
