Introductory Event of the Graduate School for new (and old) members

Friday, 11 October 2019, 9am-4pm

The event serves the purpose of integrating our new members into the Graduate School and into the research context of the Faculty of Human Sciences. In addition to receiving important information on the membership of the Graduate School, doctoral candidates will have the chance to present their own PhD projects, discuss them with their peers and get to know their fellow members’ research projects.

Of course PhD students who have been members of the Graduate School for a while are also cordially invited to present their projects at the introductory event.

The programme:

Doctoral candidates will present and discuss projects from all different stages. Thus, those who have just started out or are in the planning phase of their research projects are equally as welcome to present their ideas as those who are already at a more advanced stage or perhaps already have some results to show.

The different projects should be presented either in the form of a scientific poster or a short oral presentation. Both English and German presentations are welcome.

Every PhD project will be allocated 15 minutes, with 5-10 minutes for the actual presentation and 5-10 minutes for questions and discussions, depending on the length of the presentation itself.

To conclude the day, everyone will have the opportunity to network and socialise while enjoying some drinks and snacks.

Registration

The final schedule will be arranged in accordance with the individual members’ PhD projects.

As a consequence, all participants are asked to send in a one-page abstract of their PhD projects with their registration or by Friday, 27 September 2019 at the latest. The abstract should be send to: Graduiertenschule-HFSpamProtectionuni-koeln.de.
The final schedule will then be announced after the end of the registration period.

Active membership:

Annual participation in either the introductory event or the presentation day counts towards an active membership and allows the participants to apply for financial funding and make use of all other offers by the Graduate School (e.g. workshops, lectures etc.).

Registration:

Please register via e-mail at: Graduiertenschule-HFSpamProtectionuni-koeln.de.
Please also let us know whether you would prefer to present a poster or give a short talk.
Registration for the event ends on Friday, 27 September 2019 by which time the abstracts have to be sent in, too.

Printing of posters:

For those doctoral candidates who would like to present a poster but do not currently have one printed yet, the Graduate School offers to do the printing for them, free of charge. To use this offer, please send in a *jpeg- or *pdf-file of the poster in the DIN A0 format by Friday, 27 September 2019 to Graduiertenschule-HFSpamProtectionuni-koeln.de. Doctoral candidates will find their printed posters waiting for them at the venue on the day of the event.

For those who prefer to give a short talk, a laptop computer, a projector and a flipchart will be provided at the venue. Participants are welcome to use their own computers instead if they prefer.

We look forward to getting to know you and learn about your PhD project in October!
