This central theme connects a multitude of different research topics at the Faculty of Human Sciences whose object of research are the social and individual challenges of societal transformation processes. Thus, “Managing Diversity and Transition” has become the motto of the Graduate School of the Faculty of Human Sciences.

The Graduate School fosters research-oriented education and advanced training of early-stage researchers and serves as a platform for the internationalization of doctoral education at the Faculty. By enabling subject-specific as well as cross-disciplinary exchange, it aims to stimulate innovative research issues and to promote the development of cross-disciplinary perspectives on complex problems of societal change.

The Graduate School's concept for supporting early career scholars comprises the following components:

• the interconnection of subject-specific and cross-disciplinary supervision
• a program of qualification for early-stage researchers covering the following areas:
  • scientific methods and subject-specific matters
  • scientific management
  • career management
  • networking and social support
• regular calls for applications for stipends and grants
